April Meeting

Posted by: jwilcox on 04/04/2008 07:29 AM
About 27 Skunks showed up at Olde Main the other night including, Da Bull Skunk, yes that right, Tom Brumm was there, even Skipper made it on time (unlike his registration). Talked about RAGBRAI, the towns, other rides and donating monies to various things. More details in a May newsletter that will include bus sign-up details.

Tails Up!
It's almost like Spring (unless it snowed where you live yesterday, today 4/4 is the last average day for measurable snowfall in the state so things are looking up) and the Wed. night rides have started leaving Brookside right now at 5:30pm, 6:00 later when it stays light longer.

SKUNK

Welcome

Team Skunk is a cycling group based in central Iowa (Ames and Des Moines) with members scattered across the world. Most members live in Iowa, used to live in Iowa, or have some personal connection to Team Skunk members. Team Skunk is not a very formal organization. We're just a bunch of people that enjoy socializing, quaffing the occasional brew, and bicycling. There are no elected officers. Things tend to get done by volunteers. It's not fancy, but it's all Skunk.

• To join Team Skunk or to ask a question, contact the team leader Patti.

• Join the Team Skunk e-mail list serve.

FAQ's

What's Team Skunk?
A bicycle club located in central Iowa, Ames-Des Moines area.

How did it start?
In 1978 a few people who had done RAGBRAI were sitting around in Ames and decided to car-pool to the start. Hence, if we had a motto, it could be "A car poll that got out of hand"

Does Team Skunk have a motto?
NO, Motto?, We don't need no stinkin' motto!

Do you ride other than RAGBRAI?
Yes, we try to do several group rides in the spring and summer before the big one. we also do a couple in the fall. The last one usually the first weekend in October.

How can I join?
It's best if you know a veteran Skunk. We do take a few new people with us each year on RAGBRAI. If you don't know any Skunks, try joining us for some of the rides.

How big are you?
We take 120 people on RAGBRAI. That's about all we can get on two busses and the number of bikes we can get in two trucks. Also the luggage for that number fills one 24 foot truck we use during that week. Our mailing list is much larger.

Where do you stay on RAGBRAI?
We usually try to stay out of the main campground in smaller parks or private property.

What do you provide on RAGBRAI?
Transportation for you and you bike to the start and home from the end. Also beverages and snacks under the team canopy each day along with luggage transportation for the week.

Do you have a bus?
No, people are expected to ride each day, our ability to sag people from one over night to the next is very limited.
